Strength in Community
Father. Businessman. Community Leader.
Nelson Buss is a local father, husband, businessman, and 30-year resident of Thousand Oaks. After spending his youth living overseas and in multiple cities in the United States due to his father’s military career, Nelson and his family settled in the Conejo Valley in time for Nelson to graduate from Thousand Oaks High School. He attended both Moorpark College and California Lutheran University, where he studied computer science. After working in the automotive industry throughout Los Angeles for 18 years, he embarked on a career in real estate in the Conejo Valley. Nelson is committed to local charities, serving as the co-chair for the Thousand Oaks Rotary Chili Cook-Off and Craft Brew Festival. Additionally, Nelson serves on the City of Thousand Oaks Planning Commission. His wife Amy, an Army veteran, works as a teacher in the Conejo Valley Unified School District. Together, they have two daughters, Tristan and Dylan; he is also the stepfather to CJ, a Marine veteran, and Autumn, who both attend college in Ventura County. |
Community Involvement
![]() I do a bit of volunteering and charity work in my life. I enjoy it because I've always been a "leave things better than you found them" type of guy. It is a privilege to volunteer in our community and contribute to local charities and organizations that serve the residents of the Conejo Valley.
Currently, I serve as the co-chair for the Thousand Oaks Rotary Chili Cook-Off & Craft Beer Festival. This year's event raised over $70,000 for local non-profit organizations! I'm on the board at Play Conejo and 805 Help. Additionally, my time and money is donated to causes including: Acacia Magnet school for Enriched Learning, Reading Is Fundamental program at Conejo Elementary School, and AYSO, among others. |
On September 21, 2018, I sang in Charity Karaoke at The Borderline, raising funds for 805 Help. This event supported 20 local charities, including the host organization, Conejo Senior Volunteer Program.

My business partners and I had the privilege of giving $2000 to Madrona Elementary School. Our schools are where the next generation of Conejo Valley residents become part of the rich tapestry that is our community. I am proud to be able to give to enhance their academic experience.
Hospice of the Conejo's Festival of Trees.
Local businesses participate in the Festival by contributing decorated Christmas trees, and in our case, also collecting canned good donations. Community members may then purchase the tree and all proceeds from the sale of trees goes directly to Hospice of the Conejo's programs. Funds from these trees help the organization raise much needed funding that will go directly to caring and supporting individuals and families facing life limiting illnesses and grief. |
Relay For Life Conejo Valley
Team Buss has raised over $7000 at Relay for Life for the American Cancer Society. I was honored to have the opportunity to walk alongside survivors and participate in walking for the cure. |
